The chairman Electoral Commission for National Resistance Movement (NRM) Dr. Tanga Odoi is set to declare Rushenyi county NRM primary results today September 23.
Rushenyi election was characterised by conflict and violence by the supporters of Naomi Kabasharira and junior Labour minister Mwesigwa Rukutana, who was arrested over alleged crimes of attempted murder.
The results were cancelled after the minister petitioned that Naomi was illegally declared a winner, which halted the process, for over two weeks.
On September 15, retallying of the results commenced and by the end of the day, Rukutana was in the lead with 20 more votes than Naomi Kabasharira.
Due to continued conflict among the antagonistic sides over Nyakahita cell where Rukutana’s camp and Naomi’s camp claim to have won, Tanga Odoi, suspended the recount and promised to announce the results on a later time.
People in Ntungamo have staged several protests over the delay of announcing the results of Rushenyi County and this made the NRM EC boss to travel to Rushenyi for more clarity about the process.
Candidates in the Rushenyi County NRM flag bearer race included; Naomi Kabasharira, Mwesigwa Rukutana, Nicholas Niwahereza, Bob Karabayi, and Norman Kashereka, who are all waiting for Tanga Odoi’s final words.
