State House Breaks Silence on Appointment of New Bank of Uganda Governor to Replace Mutebile

State House has responded to reports that Ugandan President Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has appointed a new Bank of Uganda (BoU) governor to replace fallen central bank boss Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.

Prof Mutebile died last year and Museveni is yet to appoint his substantive successor. Deputy Governor Michael Atingi-Ego has been holding the position in acting capacity while also executing his official duties as deputy governor.

Over the weekend, there were claims that Museveni had appointed Prof Augustus Nuwagaba as the next BoU governor to replace Mutebile.

But Faruk Kirunda, the deputy presidential press secretary, has come out to dismiss reports that Prof Nuwagaba has been appointed central bank boss.

Kirunda urged Ugandans to wait for the president’s official communication on the matter.

“It’s not true that Prof. Nuwagaba has been appointed BOU Governor. H.E Kaguta Museveni knows his duty and when he makes such an appointment, it will be communicated officially,” said Kirunda.

The other prominent figure some previously claimed had been appointed BoU Governor was former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi. (See Details Here).
