Musician Derrick Katongole, popularly known as Victor Kamenyo, has accused National Unity Platform (NUP) Election Management Committee Secretary General Jeremiah Keeya Mwanje of abuse of office by offering himself the Rubaga North I flag Councillor slot.
Kamenyo says that Mwanje, the former Makerere University deputy guild president, was supposed to be neutral and stay away from electoral contests since he is a member of the Elections Committee.
The rapper now wants Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to rein in his Mwanje, and hand him the flag for Rubaga North Councillor position.
“My President, there is someone who abused the office we gave him as Secretary General of the NUP Electoral Commission. He is also contesting for Lord councillor something which is not allowed, he also gave himself a card. I know that my President doesn’t allow this,” wrote Kamenyo.
“I have petitioned him but I have not yet got any response, yet nominations for Lord Councillor positions is coming to an end. I am seeking truth and justice from you my President [Bobi Wine]; my hope is in you.”
Kamenyo is not the only singer complaining after the Mercy Walukamba Committee denied him the NUP card.
The Kamwokya-based party rejected Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone’s bid for Kampala Lord Mayor position, choosing Kawempe North MP Latif Ssebagala who has since thrown away the flag and withdrawn from the race against Erias Lukwago of main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
NUP has now readvertised the Kampala Lord Mayoral flag bearer position.
Also, singer Sadat Mukiiba aka Khalifah Aganaga has complained of injustice after the party denied him the Rubaga South MP seat.
“I can’t believe they would treat me like this. I have invested a lot of money in this: printing banners, posters, I bought berets and most of all I have been promoting the struggle but the way they treated me was so unfair,” Aganaga said.
“They are not practicing the democracy they preach. They should let us meet the voters who should make a choice. This vetting process is not democratic.”
Aganaga has since denounced Bobi Wine’s NUP and crossed to President Yoweri Museveni’s National Resistance Movement (NRM).
