There was shock at Ugandan school playground after a student collapsed and died during sports training.
The incident happened in Kagadi District on Monday, June 09, 2025, as students at Kyakabadiima Parents Secondary School in Kyakabadiima Sub County were doing football training exercises and drills.
Identified as Richard Byamukama, the student was aged 19 and in Senior Three.
Preliminary findings indicate that Byamukama collapsed and breathed his last at about 6:30pm during the football training session that happened at the playground for Kyakabadiima School.
It is said that Byamukama and his fellow students had just started doing their routine training for the game of football when the incident happened.
His colleagues screamed, attracting the school’s neighbours who live near the playground. These came in to help but by the time they arrived at the Kyakabadiima School grounds, it was too late.
School authorities say Byamukama did not appear to be sick. His sudden death shocked his fellow students, teachers and locals.
The body of the deceased student was transported to Kagadi General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police in Kyakabadiima Police Post say they are conducting investigations into the incident so as to ascertain the cause of Byamukama’s death.
