The UPDF, Uganda’s national army, has dismissed claims that operatives of Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) tortured Alexandreos Marinos.
In recent days, opposition NUP party has turned Alexandreos Marinos’ case a key talking point.
“For supporting People Power and NUP this young woman Alexandreos Marinos was recently abducted, severely tortured and assaulted by security operatives at the CMI facility in Mbuya. Her ordeal is very difficult to listen to!” claimed NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
They said profanities to her, while kicking her, slapping her and whipping her with wires.
NUP’s Women’s League even called a press conference to address the issue and call for justice for Marinos.
But now, UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has punched holes in the claims by Marinos.
Brig Gen Kulayigye says the officers Marinos accuses of torturing her were “nowhere near her” on the day(s) she claimed she was detained and assaulted.
The Army spokesperson insists Marinos has never been in any UPDF or CMI detention facility.
He also claims that on the days of the alleged kidnap, the NUP supporter was busy conversing with friends on phone.
“The days she alleges she had been kidnapped she was communicating on phone with. So how can you be a kidnapped victim and you’re talking with friends?” wondered Kulayigye.
“Of course you are aware that we have access to any telephone conversations.”
