Former Kampala Mayor Nasser Ntege Sebaggala will tussle it out with singer Jose Chameleone for the People Power pressure group’s ticket to challenge Erias Lukwago in the 2021 mayoral race.
Musician Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone, also a Democratic Party (DP) mobiliser, recently picked nomination forms for the Kampala mayoral race flag bearer.
But Sebaggala aka Seya, who was Kampala mayor from 2006 to 2011, has also joined Jose Chameleone in seeking the People Power ticket.
Sebaggala, who claims he has even returned the nomination forms to the Kamwokya-based pressure group, says he is the best candidate to beat Lukwago.
He also says he is back not to transform Kampala, not to engage in politicking, adding that for the period he was out of office city leaders have done politics and wrangling instead of development.
At 72, Sebbagala also says he joined People Power to guide the youth, given his experience.
This is the second time Seya is seeking a political comeback. In 2016, quit the presidential race to back President Yoweri Museveni.
He has also previously served as Museveni’s advisor.
LUKWAGO, THE MAN SEBBAGALA, CHAMELEONE, NAGGAYI WANT TO OUST
Lukwago, who Sebbagala seeks to unseat, is a ‘prodigal’ DP member who broke away and formed the Truth and Justice (TJ) platform.
He also enjoys support from main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party and its four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye.
In the opposition leader’s People’s Government (PG), Lukwago is deputy president.
FDC recently closed the process of return of expression of interest forms and sources in the party say no member applied for the Kampala lord mayor race.
Kampala Woman MP Nabilah Naggayi Sempala, a relative of Sebbagala, had her forms rejected after she returned the forms a day after the July 14 deadline.
Naggayi argued that the FDC had not yet announced the schedule for the nomination of presidential and mayoral flag bearers.
