Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports has announced reopening of medical schools (health training) as discussions on allowing other education institutions continue.
Through the National for Higher Education (NCHE), First Lady Janet Museveni’s Ministry has allowed the phased reopening of medical schools.
An earlier statement from the NCHE had indicated that an inter-Ministerial meeting held on August 04, 2021 had resolved to reopen health institutions on August 30, 2021, starting with finalists and postgraduate students.
Other students would report later in a staggered manner.
But another statement by NCHE executive director Prof Mary Okwakol announced the medical schools reopening date had been brought forward.
This means that inspection of health institutions would happen after reopening.
“Reference is made to my letter dated 5th August 2021, regarding reopening of medical schools and health training institutions. The date of reopening of medical schools and health training institutions has been brought forward from Monday 30th August to Friday 13th August 2021,’’ Prof Okwakol wrote.
“Inspections will be conducted after re-opening. Arrangements have been made to carryout vaccination at the school institutions.”
