Ugandan opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has described this week as a ‘terrible’ one after losing a close relative and neighbor a few days after his diaspora campaigner was pronounced dead on return into the country.
On Saturday, November 05, Dr Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate, announced the death of his cousin brother. Besigye said Jonathan Mpeireki aka Tanker had died in his sleep on the night of Friday, November 04.
The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president also revealed that Jonathan Mpeireki Tanker, his neighbor in the south western Uganda district of Rukungiri (Besigye hails from the village of Rwakabengo found in Rukungiri) had been diagnosed with a tumor in his jaw prior to his death.
“Terrible week! My Cousin brother Jonathan Mpeireki (Tanker), recently diagnosed as having a tumour in his jaw, passed on in his sleep last night. Tanker is also our immediate neighbour in Rukungiri. Burial arrangements to follow. In all situations, the Lord is in charge,” Besigye wrote.
The death of Jonathan Mpeireki Tanker followed that of Omulangira Dickson Wasajja who also died this week hours after arriving in Uganda from the UK where he had lived for many years. Omulangira Wasajja was one of Besigye’s most loyal campaigners in the diaspora. He previously led the FDC UK Chapter. (Read Details Here).
Besigye has also revealed that fallen Museveni NRA bush war commander Lt Col Ahmad Kashilling had a very painful end, and that before Kashilling died, he had come to him begging for Shs 50K to buy medicine! (See Details HERE).
