The media fraternity is mourning after news that veteran journalist, political analyst and former presidential secretary Onapito Ekomoloit is dead.
Former health minister and ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice chairman for eastern Uganda, Capt Mike Mukula, confirmed the news of the passing of Onapito Ekomoloit.
“On behalf of the Teso community and the country at large I hereby announce we deep sadness and Pain demise of our brother Hon ONAPITO OKOMOLOIT (RIP) a veteran journalist and former member of parliament AMURIA county …the rest of the details will be communicated later,” Mukula announced.
A regular panelist at stations like KFM, NTV and NBS TV, Onapito Ekomoloit was also a former MP for Amuria County. He also served as the Board Chairman of Nile Breweries Ltd.
Many in journalism and politics have been paying tribute and mourning the passing of Onapito.
“Death has robbed us of a great friend Onapito Ekomoloit. A fine intellectual. A meek and calm gentleman. My sympathy to the family, HE Yoweri Museveni and the journalism fraternity,” wrote junior health minister and former journalist Margaret Muhanga.
“Ndugu Onapito Ekomoloit was a good man. Deeply knowledgeable, respectful and humble. It was always a learning experience the couple of times our paths crossed. We mourn with his family, the people of Teso and the media fraternity. May his ancestors receive him with favour,” wrote Don Wanyama, the Vision Group CEO.
“I’ve heard the news of the death of Onapito Ekomoloit with sadness. He was my lecturer at MUK, editor at Monitor, friend and fellow panelist on KFM’s Hot Seat. A brilliant intellectual with a realistic approach to politics, he inspired us all with his wit. May his soul RIP,” wrote Andrew Mwenda, the owner of Independent Magazine.
