The Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has claimed the life of a doctor, Uganda’s Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed.

The death of this doctor is the first confirmed demise of a health worker in the current outbreak of the Sudan strain of EVD which was confirmed in the impoverished East African nation about two weeks ago.

A probable Ebola death of a midwife was reported at St Florence Clinic but no confirmatory test had been conducted to prove beyond reasonable doubt that she succumbed to the viral haemorrhagic fever.

According to Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the first health worker and doctor to succumb to the Ebola Virus Disease in the current outbreak is Dr Mohammed Ali.

Hailing from Tanzania, the Ugandan southern neighbor, Dr Mohammed Ali was only 37 years.

He was pronounced dead at 03:15am at the isolation unit of Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.

Mohammed Ali had been down with Ebola since September 26, losing the battle and breathing his last after four days of admission.

“I regret to announce that we have lost our first doctor, Dr Mohammed Ali, a Tanzanian National, 37 year old Male today at 3:15am. He tested positive of Ebola on Sept 26, 2022 and died while receiving treatment at Fort Portal RRH, Isolation facility,” said Minister Aceng.

It should be remembered that the first case of Ebola was confirmed in Uganda a few weeks ago. (Read Story Here).

Some patients escaped from Mubende Regional Referral Hospital, with one later collapsing at another hospital in another district, and another man said to have fled to Tanzania via the Mutukula Border Point. (Read Story Here).

As Ebola continues to spread, some people had called on President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni to declare a lockdown. But in his recent address, Museveni said he would not declare a lockdown, for now. (Read Story Here).
