An early morning accident along Mbale-Tirinyi Road has claimed the lives of six people, the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate of Uganda Police Force (UPF) has confirmed.
According to Traffic Directorate Spokesperson Faridah Nampiima, the accident happened at Mailo Tano in Budaka at about 6am on May 04.
The accident involved motor vehicles Registration Numbers UAT 995A (Raum), UBH 437K (Toyota Hiace) and UBJ 676W (Toyota Hiace).
The six people who perished in the accident have been identified as David Mulabi, Fatima Namarome, Kurusum Nambafu, Isaka Kafero, and a yet-to-be unidentified male adult.
A one Saida Nandigobe sustained serious injuries while two others, who were not identified, survived the accident.
“The cause of accident has been attributed to over speeding by the speeding taxi UBJ 676W. The drivers of both Toyota Hiaces are on the run, and efforts are underway to have them arrested,” said Nampiima.
“We want to caution all road users to be disciplined while on the road, most of the accidents are as a result of human errors that are avoidable once we drive carefully and responsibly.”
