Golden Band singer Ronald Mayinja has finally recorded a statement with Katwe Police Station, days after she locked The Observer female journalist Yudaya Nangonzi in his house and shattered her phone with interview recording.
On January 07, drama ensued at Mayinja’s Munyonyo home when the singer locked the journalist inside his home after she refused to delete a recording taken during an interview.
Nangonzi’s employer says Mayinja wanted the recording detailing some sensitive information deleted because it would cause his problems.
With the reporter unwilling to surrender the phone which contained the recording, Mayinja locked his house and claimed Nangonzi had trespassed to take photos of his naked children.
Salama Road Police Station had summoned Mayinja to report and record a statement on January 08 but the singer refused to appear before officers.
Consequently, Katwe Police Station took over the case and summoned Mayinja to report on January 09.
Meanwhile, Mayinja has reached out to Nangonzi promising to buy her a new phone to replace the one he destroyed, and offering her money in compensation.
Nangonzi’s employer The Observer says Mayinja called the reporter asking her to ‘forget the past and just accept a new phone and money.”
Now, on January 09 morning, Mayinja drove to Katwe Police Station and recorded a statement regarding the incident.
