RESULTS: Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi (Mbarara-NRM), Florence Namayanja (Masaka-NUP), Lawrence Alionzi (Arua-NRM) Win City Mayor Elections

Confirmed city mayoral election results indicate that Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Florence Namayanja of main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) have retained their mayor positions for Mbarara City and Masaka City, respectively.

Lawrence Alionzi of the NRM won Arua City mayoral election.

Here are the results:

FLORENCE NAMAYANJA – MBARARA CITY MAYOR

NUP’s Florence Namayanja has retained her seat as Masaka City Mayor after garnering 22,568 votes, according to results seen by The Pearl Times.

Namayanja defeated Michael Mulindwa Nakumusana of Mathias Mpuuga’s Democratic Front (DF) who managed 4,933 votes.

Masaka City Returning Officer Ahmed Naduli has officially declared Florence Namayanja the duly elected Masaka City Mayor.

LAWRENCE ALIONZI – ARUA CITY MAYOR

Meanwhile, Lawrence Alionzi of the NRM has emerged the winner and was declared the duly elected mayor for Arua City, The Pearl Times has confirmed.

Official results indicate that Alionzi polled 32,663, beating independent candidate Trinity Ceasor Draecabo who garnered 3,197 votes, and  Gasper Piriyo of Norbert Mao’s Democratic Party who managed 1,712 votes in a race where the total number of valid votes was 37,572; invalid votes were 927.

Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi – NRM – 21117 votes

Senate Agaba – Independent – 2756 votes

Mark Itogoro Nyabihemu – NUP – 533 votes

Stanley Katembeya Tugume – PFF – 8731 votes

Mweteise Bintabara – Independent –  170 votes

Total Number of Valid Votes Cast for Candidates – 33307

Total Number of Rejected (Invalid) Ballot Paper 497

Total Number of Ballot Papers Counted 33804

Total Number of Spoilt Ballot Papers 168

Accordingly, as Returning Officer for … MBARARA CITY … Electoral district and in accordance with Section 147 of the Local Governments Act, Cap. 138, I declare … KAKYEBEZI ROBERT MUGABE … who has obtained the largest number of votes to be elected candidate for … MBARARA CITY … Electoral District,” declared Returning Officer  Violet Atuhurra.
