Police in the South Western Ugandan district of Kanungu have arrested a radio station manager after a video of him beating up a female employee went viral.
Kanungu FM Station manager Nelson Twinamatsiko Kagote reportedly assaulted Anita Tumuramye aka Anita Rose over a commission for a business deal.
The commission was said to be between Shs12,000 and Shs40,000. Tumuramye had reportedly convinced a school to advertise with the station and was entitled to a commission in accordance with the station’s advertising rules.
After the school advert, worth Shs200,000 was recorded and ready to run, Tumuramye demanded her commission from the station manager who responded by raining blows on the junior female employee.
The slaps and blows reportedly left Tumuramye bleeding in the nose. She sought treatment last week.
Twinamatsiko, the manager of the station which is owned by ICT and National Guidance Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi, is said to be a very well connected man.
This is partly corroborated by Tumuramye who says she would not report Twinamatsiko on January 26, the date on which she was assaulted. She feared that she would be harmed if she reported her boss.
But she would later report the incident to police, offering her medical report as evidence of her assault.
It took Kanungu Police nearly one week to arrest Twinamatsiko. In fact, they only arrested him after social media outcry following the wide sharing of the assault video on social media. (Read Story Here).
Twinamatsiko has since been arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court this week or early next week.
