Uganda Police Force (UPF) has confirmed the death, by choking, of a man who was taking part in an eating competition on Christmas Day in the south-western Uganda district of Kanungu.
The deceased was aged 55.
Identified as Gad Sentenekora, a resident of Kayembe Cell, Kabuga Parish in Kihihi, Kanungu District, was one of the 10 participants in the eating contest.
Tens of revelers had turned up for entertainment at the contest organized by a one Saverino.
The competition sought to find out who can eat faster than the others. Foods in the contest included cakes and chapati.
But somewhere in the midst of the competition, revelers were shocked when Sentenekora collapsed.
The spectators took off on learning that Sentenekora was in trouble.
Later, detectives and the OC CID Kihihi Police Station rushed to the scene. At Kabuga Police Post, police also recorded a death enquiry file under SD REF 04/26/12/2021.
Sentenekora was later pronounced dead at about 8pm.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has today confirmed that Sentenekora choked to death.
