President Yoweri Museveni has said he recently developed a slight back problem after engaging in his regular fitness routine.
The Ugandan leader disclosed this on Thursday while speaking at the Africa We Build Summit convened by Africa Finance Corporation in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
Contrary to his usual practice of addressing audiences while standing for long stretches, he chose to sit during his remarks to ease the discomfort.
Although he is widely recognised for his endurance and ability to remain standing through lengthy addresses, the president opted to deliver his speech seated on this occasion to minimise strain on his back.
“I am glad they allowed me to speak while seated here because while doing pushups, I strained my back,” said Museveni.
“I really want to talk to you comfortably; not in a hurry.”
Despite the injury, Museveni appeared composed and moved without difficulty as he made his way to the event, an indication that the strain was not serious.
Currently aged 81 and in power since 1986, Museveni remains widely acknowledged for his physical fitness, often impressing observers with his strength and endurance.
In 2020, he shared a video of himself performing pushups in his office, urging the public to maintain exercise routines at home during lockdown after outdoor activities were restricted to control the spread of the new coronavirus.
The president has on several occasions spoken out on how he has kept himself fit, citing lifestyle choices including maintaining a strict natural diet and physical exercise.

It should be remembered that President Museveni recently got involved in an accident with his wife Janet and daughter, as reported Here.
