Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa has been elected the deputy speaker of the 11th Parliament.

So, who exactly is Thomas Tayebwa?
Thomas Tayebwa was born in present day Mitooma District on November 10, 1980. His parents are Daudi Bangirana and Betty Komuhangi.
He is married to Anita Rukundo Tayebwa and blessed with one son named Timothy Rubanda-Mayonza.
He possesses a Bachelors of Laws (Hons) Degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Hons), both from Makerere University. He was a Fellow of MBA at Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI).
He also holds a Certificate in Negotiation of Harvard Law School and a Professional Certificate in Parliamentary Affairs from International Centre for Parliamentary Studies, London.
Currently, he is serving as a Member of the 11th Parliament representing Ruhinda County North on ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket.
He was among a handful Members of Parliament who went through the 2016 parliamentary elections unopposed.
He served on the Natural Resources, and National Economy Committees of Parliament.
He also served on the eight-member select committee to investigate mismanagement of Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL).
He was reelected resoundingly back to Parliament, in January 2021.
Tayebwa is an entrepreneur with interests in communications and media, culture and heritage, transport and cosmetics.
He is also a renowned philanthropist who has supported several community projects across the county, and continues to support several children from vulnerable backgrounds to attain education, medical care etc. He has also supported several youth start-ups with capital and as a business mentor.
Tayebwa had been a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and tried to seek election as a youth MP on the party’s ticket but was unsuccessful.
In June 2021, Tayebwa was elected Government Chief Whip. (Read Story Here).

He has now been elected deputy speaker.
In 2024, he revealed that he used to sell pancakes, getting a commission of one pancakes for every 10 sold.
“I used to sell pancakes during break time and during close of school in the evening and would make accountability the next day,” he told fellow MPs during plenary in presence of his early business mentor James Bebazo on whose behalf he sold the pancakes.
“My commission was in form of pancakes. Every 10 pancakes I sold, I would get one, which I would eat right away with my close friends.”
