PLE EXAMS CHEATING: Four Sent to Prison

At least four suspects have been remanded to prison for engaging in acts of alleged examination malpractice related to the conduct of Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

Hundreds of thousands of candidates sat PLE examinations on November 08 and 09, 2022. But a few cases of examination malpractice were reported as schools, teachers and candidates attempted to cheat. Some of these were unlucky.

Now, court in Mpigi has remanded some of these to prison. Grade 1 Senior Magistrate Fatuma Nabirye remanded the four suspects of examination malpractice to Mpigi Prison  until February 01, 2023.

The suspects  include Desire Mukasa,  Francis Philemon Bbuye,  and Frank Ssebuuma. It is alleged  that between  November 08 and November 09,  2022, the suspects were  in possession  of electrical examination  material or information and were equally involved in electrical  transmission  of the same.

They have been charged with aiding and abetting  examination  malpractice, contrary  to Section 36 of the UNEB  Act 2021. They are also charged  with another account of possession and transmission of examination  material or information  contrary to section  25 of the UNEB  Act.

These were remanded at a time when parents and candidates are anxiously waiting for Uneb to release results from last year’s PLE. The Pearl Times understands that Uneb will release the 2022 PLE results next week. (Read Latest Story on this Issue Here).
