Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine’s main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party is expected to unveil Patrick Kanyomozi as spokesperson replacing Joel Ssenyonyi after the sports presenter quit his job at KFM, sources say.
On December 29, 2023, Kanyomozi, a friend to Bobi Wine and one who usually argues for NUP on social media, announced he was quitting KFM after 13 years in which he also led the Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa).
Kanyomozi, husband to Capital FM Breakfast show co-host Lucky Mbabazi, did not reveal his next move.
I made my final appearance on 93.3 KFM this morning as I retire from radio and active journalism.
I leave a very contented man because from a very young age, all I ever wanted to do was to be a Radio Presenter, I was lucky to get my first radio job in my S6 vacation and never looked back. I have lived my dream. I give glory to the most high.
I am very grateful to everyone that gave me a hand on my radio and journalism journey. To everyone I have worked with or alongside, thank you. Special thanks to Richard Linga and Joseph Beyanga, you know how I walked into those doors.
To the listeners, thank you so much, without you I wouldn’t be where I am.
Retirement is here, onto the next chapter….
One love.
But a source close to decision makers at NUP told The Pearl Times Kanyomozi was the favorite to replace JOEL SSENYONYI, the youthful first time Nakawa West MP, who recently replaced seasoned legislator Mathias Mpuuga as leader of opposition in parliament.
“Principal [Bobi Wine] feels Kanyomozi has everything needed to speak for NUP. He has the experience. He also supports the party, its leader and has been defending People Power online. He is a vocal voice on social media,” the source said.
In an interview, Kanyomozi said he was a friend to Bobi Wine after the NUP principal sent Lucky Mbabazi an Iftar package.
“… we are friends [with Bobi Wine]. We talk once in a while, and my wife and Barbie [Itungo, Bobi’s wife] are friends. The Kyagulanyis have been sending Iftar to different Muslims and that day, they decided to send to Lucky and we were grateful. I think everyone knows about my relationship with Bobi Wine and the movement; he is a man I look up to in so many ways and a person I believe is a good leader,” he said.
Bobi Wine and his wife Barbie Itungo have previously hosted Kanyomozi and his wife Lucky.
Other reports suggested that Kanyomozi was planning to join parliamentary politics. In a previous interview, he said he couldn’t rule out joining politics. “
“Probably in the future, but not now. I have not been a big fan of elective politics, but I cannot rule it out.
