Over 4600 Ugandans Killed in Road Accidents in One Year – Police Crime Report

Over 4600 Ugandans were killed in road accidents in one year, Police’s annual crime report indicates.

Police has released the 2025 annual crime report today, March 30, 2026, at its headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

The report indicates that in 2025, a total of 196,405 cases were reported to the police compared to 218,715 cases in 2024, representing a 10.2 per cent reduction in reported cases.

Of these cases, only 79,291 cases ended up in court even when 115,301 cases were sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Of the cases that made it to court, a total of 24,899 cases culminated in convictions. Up to 31,732 people were convicted and sentenced.

The annual police crime report also reveals that a total of 322,441 traffic related cases were recorded in 2025. This was a reduction of about 24.4 per cent compared to 2024 when 426,432 cases were reported.

Police recorded a total of 26,044 road crashes, of which 4,602 were fatal, 13,563 were serious, and 7,879 minor. This means that about 13 people were killed every day in road accidents last year.

Summary of other crimes

Child-related offences dropped by 14.3 per cent. Up to 8,064 cases were reported.

economic and corruption crimes reduced from 13,132 in 2024 to 11,548 cases in 2025. Cases of obtaining by false pretences reduced to 8,455 from 10,449.

Land-related crimes increase significantly – by up to 67 per cent; 663 direct cases were registered.

Terrorism offences reduced from 26 in 2024 to eight in 2025.

This year alone, a number of accidents have been recorded across the country. Just a few weeks ago, three family members were killed in an accident in Entebbe, five were killed in a bus accident in Kiryandongo, and three in a Tausi accident, as reported Here, There and Over There.
