Opposition Parties Criticize Electoral Commission Over 2026 Roadmap

The Independent Electoral Commission’s 2026 roadmap has come under fire from opposition parties in Uganda. Ronald Kabuku, chairperson of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese district, argued that the roadmap favors the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Kabuku expressed concern that the roadmap’s registration timeline will disenfranchise students who will be in school during that period, potentially limiting opposition youths’ participation in the 2026 general elections.

Brian Basisa, chairperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Kasese district, concurred with Kabuku and urged his party members to mobilize early.

He also called on NUP members in the diaspora to return for party mobilization. In contrast, Ben Kirere, aspiring for Kasese district chairpersonship on the NRM ticket, expressed confidence in his ability to compete despite the time constraints.
