NUP’s Gracious Kadondi Beats Ex-Miss Uganda Hannah Karema Tumukunde to Become Makerere University’s 92nd Guild President

Makerere, Kampala – Uganda; April 10, 2026In a decisive outcome from Makerere University’s digitally‑held students’ election, Gracious Kadondi of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has been elected the 92nd Guild President. Kadondi defeated a crowded field of 12 other aspirants, continuing NUP’s strong influence in student politics.

Voting was conducted online through the university’s AIMS portal, with students across multiple colleges participating in one of the most competitive polls in recent memory.

Ahead of the polls, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine endorsed Kadondi.

“That girl Gracious Kadondi from Mulimira zone in Kamwokya and also went to Kitante Hill School; I don’t know whether to call her home girl, or OG, or comrade,” Bobi Wine wrote on April 08, 2026.

“Any way, I hope the  Makerere University students can see what we all see.Come tomorrow, please vote KADONDI graciously.”

And after news of Kadondi’s victory broke, Bobi Wine congratulated her: “Congratulations, Madam President! Congratulations, Gallant Makererians! The struggle continues!”

Final Vote Tally: Full Results

Results indicate the following scores per candidate:

Gracious Kadondi — 6,801 votes (Winner)

Hannah Karema Tumukunde — 5,787 votes

Kyajja Peter Claveri — 1,493 votes

Nyaika Daniel — 1,147 votes

Nzanga Mark — 595 votes

Mujuzi Mike Flugensio — 408 votes

Tebakor Jimmy Prince — 184 votes

Mbabazi Theresa Tracy — 148 votes

Semanda Ashiraf  — 121 votes

Lubango Jackson (Public Health) — 65 votes

Bulumba Timothy — 61 votes

Serunkuma Timothy — 68 votes

Atuha Cohen — 35 votes.

Kadondi won by a margin of 1,014 votes over Karema, reflecting strong support across the student body and demonstrating her appeal to a broad spectrum of the electorate.

Kadondi’s victory marks a continuation of political engagement and activism at Makerere University, where student leaders often influence broader national debates and policy conversations. Her campaign emphasised student welfare, academic reforms, and open governance, resonating with voters seeking strong representation in university leadership.

As Kadondi prepares to serve, the Makerere community will be watching how her administration addresses key issues such as student accommodation, academic standards, and campus freedoms.
