The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the cancellation of the NRM Entrepreneurs League elections.
Fred Omach, the NRM Electoral Commission deputy chairperson, and commissioner Jane Babaiha addressed reporters on the latest developments in the election for NRM Entrepreneurs League members.
Omach explained that most of the candidates in the Entrepreneurs League elections have withdrawn from respective races.
It is understood that Hassan Basajjabalaba, the newly elected chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneurs League, has been meeting candidates for different positions and encouraging them to work towards consensus.
As a result, most of the candidates were left unopposed. With this development, the NRM Electoral Commission took the decision to cancel the elections.
The Pearl Times understands that those who have officially pulled out include Juanitta Magimbi, Thadeus Musoke and Bosco Mugambagye who were vying for the position of vice chairperson for Kampala.
Favour Kiiza, who was vying for the position of vice chairperson for western Uganda, also withdrew from the race.
Also withdrawing from the race was David Akuru and Robert Okodia, who were both contesting for the position of vice chairperson for northern Uganda.
Simon Peter Lokadel withdrew from the race for the position of vice chairperson for Karamoja, while Dominic Wagooli withdrew from the race for vice chairperson eastern Uganda.
The Pearl Times also understands that Ali Nsubuga, Abdul Bisaso and Benard Mulengani and Esther Najjemba withdrew from the race for secretary for publicity.
Claveri Barigye, Ruth Kizza and Juliet Nuwahereza withdrew from the race for the position of secretary for finance.
Hassan Basajjabalaba, the new chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneurs League, himself was declared unopposed after his opponents agreed to withdraw from the race and back him. (See Details Here).
Meanwhile, the election for NRM youth leaders is going on across the districts of Uganda after chaos erupted last month at the Kololo delegates conference.
The youth delegates at districts will be voting members of the NRM youth league led by the National Youth Chairperson.
It should be remembered that the NRM Election Disputes Tribunal cancelled the election of Collins Tanga as NRM youth league boss, and ordered his father Tanga Odoi to stay away from the elections. (See Details Here and There).
The youth delegates at districts are also expected to elect NRM flagbearers for regional youth MPs (western, eastern, central and northern Uganda MPs), as well as for the national female youth MP.
