NO JOKES! 22Bet Uganda Bows Under Pressure, Pays Bettor Who Won Shs13.5m

A controversial betting company has bowed to pressure from social media and the lotteries regulator to pay a bettor who won Shs13.5m.

A one Masuhd claimed he had won the money but 22Bet Uganda had refused to pay him, citing security concerns.

Masuhd begged the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), which is responsible for licensing and regulating the gaming industry in Uganda, to come to his rescue.

He also rallied his followers to call out 22Bet Uganda for ‘refusing’ to pay him.

“Dear tweeps, please I need your help 22Bet Uganda is trying to steal my 13.5m. I deposit very well and won, but they have refused withdrawals. I have been engaging with them but they have refused and all they do is to play me. I have given them all the documents put all in vain,” Masuhd appealed to his X followers to help expose and pile pressure on 22Bet Uganda.

22Bet Uganda then told Masuhd that the betting company’s security team had requested to handle the matter as part of “the KYC process done for players in case of any a usual activity on their accounts.

Adding that the security measure was meant to “make sure that the account is in possession by the actual owner,” 22Bet Uganda advised Masuhd to “share the necessary requested details to the security team to have this process seamlessly completed.”

The company added: “We understand the concerns raised about Masuhd’s case. While we strive to handle all matters fairly and expeditiously, it’s important to address the facts accurately. Despite violating our terms and conditions and providing false information during verification, we assured Masudh of priority attention in a private conversation.

“Our commitment to customer service remains unwavering, but compliance is paramount. However, previously we have contacted him privately to further resolve this matter, reaffirming our promise and commitment to make a step forward and pay the winnings to the customer.”

22BET UGANDA: WE PAID MASUHD OUT OF GOODWILL

Hours later, Masuhd confirmed that he had received his money.

“Hello tweeps, I would like to inform you that 22Bet Uganda has finally paid me my full amount of 13.5m.  I would like to thank NLGRB and its executive director Mr Denis Mudene who reached out to the moment they saw my issue,” wrote Masuhd.

“I would like to thank the lawyers that reached out to me and were willing to help me get my money. I go on thank my friends and those that didn’t know me but have put in their all to make this happen.  I go to that everyone that pushed the hashtag. Lastly, this is my money not ‘our money’.”

22Bet Uganda would then say they had paid Masuhd, who they insisted had violated their policies, out of goodwill.

“Upon investigation, it was discovered that Masuhd had created multiple accounts, contravening the agreed-upon terms of service. As a company committed to upholding integrity and fairness, such actions cannot be tolerated,” the betting company wrote.

“In accordance with our policies, Masuhd’s account was promptly suspended, and any associated winnings were forfeited. However, after careful consideration, we have decided to extend a full payout of UGX 10,146,000 in addition to his initial stale of UGX 600,000 to Masuhd as a gesture of goodwill.”
