President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government is considering increasing salaries for all health workers in the 2022-23 Financial Year, beginning July 2022, a top Ministry of Public Service official has announced.
As we reported recently, Government has approved salary enhancements for a number of top health professionals in the country, starting in the 2022-23 financial year, which kicks off on July 01. (Read Story Here).
This prompted other health workers under the Allied Health Professionals Associations to announce that they will go on strike next month for being left behind. (Read Story Here).
The move to enhance salaries of government employees also left out teachers. (Read Story Here).

But according to Catherine Bitarakwate, no health worker will be left behind.
All the health workers will share Shs400bn that has been set aside for the increment of salaries for government employees in the health workers
“All health workers, whether local government or allied health, all of them are in [to benefit],” PS Bitarakwate was quoted as telling Daily Monitor.
“All health professional, including morgue attendants, will benefit.”
The Permanent secretary went on to say that the money might not be sufficient to meet all health workers’ expectations but added there would be some increment.
“You cannot get all your expectation, but they will definitely get what is way better than what they have been earning,” Bitarakwate further told the daily.
“Even me, I may choose to say that there are other chief executive officers [in government] getting Shs35m [per month]. So, must I climb a tree because I have been given Shs15m [as PS]?”

In order to improve service delivery and end the challenge of strikes over low pay, President Museveni’s government has proposed huge salary increments for teachers, doctors and other employees starting July 2022. (Read Story Here)
The proposed increments have left many people wondering if government will really fulfill this pledge and increase salaries by very high amounts.
