President Yoweri Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has released the revised nomination fees structure and updated election roadmap showing party primaries polling dates. According to the revised NRM nomination fees structure, some positions have become more expensive to be competed for.
As she and fellow party secretariat officials released the roadmap and revised nomination fees structure, NRM deputy secretary general Rose Namayanja Nsereko explained that the money – including that to be collected from increased fees – woll help in organizing internal elections or primaries.
Namayanja noted that the money paid by the candidates seeking the coveted NRM flag as nomination fees is not enough to cover the expenses incurred in conducting “all the activities we have but it’s just a small contribution.”
In any case, Namayanja further noted, the party helps pay the nomination fees, with the national Electoral Commission (EC), for its official flag bearers.

In the revised NRM nomination fees structure, any party member who wishes to contest to become the national chairman/chairperson – the position currently occupied by President Yoweri Museveni – will have to pay Shs20m up from Shs10m in the last election.
The fees for the first national vice chairperson (male) and second national vice chairperson (female), have been revised from Shs5m to Shs10m, each.
