Medicines regulator National Drug Authority (NDA) has explained its decision to block the production and distribution of Covid19 herbal drug Covilyce 1.
Gulu University scientists claim they have tested Covilyce 1 on over 100 Covid19 patients, with good results.
The drug, that comes in nasal drops, linctus, suppositories and powder forms, heals Covid19 within a period of between 12 and 72 hours.
The university had also revealed it would continue to conduct trials of the drug, which they said would be administered and distributed by its team of trained herbalists.
But NDA has confirmed blocking the production, and distribution of Covilyce 1 pending approval.
“NDA has not approved this product, it shouldn’t be on the market and the innovators have been warned,” said the medicines regulator.
“They confirmed this product is still under lab research and tests. Before we notify a product, it shouldn’t be used as we can’t guarantee it’s safety.”
