Going live today, June 01, 2024, Uganda National Lottery by ITHUBA Uganda Limited has promised to change lives, give joy to Ugandans and transform the lottery landscape in the country.
Selected by the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) in an evaluation process, ITHUBA Uganda Limited has won the confidence of the lotteries regulator.
Officials at NLGRB are upbeat about ITHUBA’s national lottery, with Denis Mudene, CEO of the NLGRB, saying the company had “demonstrated their expertise and capability to conduct an automated national lottery.” Mudene added that the regulator was “confident [ITHUBA] will meet the highest standards of transparency and accountability.”
The NLGRB CEO also emphasized the role of lottery in raising funds for sports infrastructure under the Lotteries and Gaming Act. Uganda is gearing to co-host AFCON 2027 and such infrastructure are important. The other benefits of ITHUBA’s arrival on the scene, Mudene continued, include job creation and local content development.
ITHUBA has injected an initial $14.5m. The Estimated annual revenue is about Shs147bn. This investment is expected to impact the Ugandan economy, including through the creation of over 101,700 jobs.
Eric Mabuza, the Executive Member of ITHUBA Uganda, referenced the successes in South Africa to assure Ugandans of chances of success: over $680m for good causes in a period of nine years.
“ITHUBA Uganda is poised to create a new chapter in Uganda’s history with the introduction of the National Lottery. We will apply our best practices to ensure its success and firmly place Uganda on the map as a leading lottery operator,” he said.
“When our sister company in South Africa won the bid to operate the South African National Lottery in June 2015, we set out to transform the lottery landscape. Today, I am thrilled to share how our experiences and learnings will shape the future of gaming and social upliftment in Uganda.”
Michelle van Trotsenberg, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at ITHUBA Uganda, invited Ugandans to take the “opportunity to dream with us, to play with us, and to win with us.”
A range of games with guaranteed jackpots – from Shs40m to Shs1.5bn – will be on offer, continued Trotsenberg. These include LOTTO, POWERBALL, DAILY LOTTO, SPORTSTAKE 10, and SPIN4CASH. Tickets will be available at authorized shops, at the website, or the app or via USSD *278#.
“We are creating a platform that will inspire hope, generate opportunities, and drive significant socio-economic impact for the people of Uganda,” noted van Trotsenberg.
“Each game offers a unique opportunity to dream, play, and win, bringing excitement and the chance to transform your life with every ticket.”
Stephen Muneza, the Public Relations Officer of ITHUBA Uganda, said: “”We are not here for a fleeting visit. ITHUBA Uganda is here for the long haul – a ten-year commitment to transparency, integrity, and most importantly, to creating a positive impact on Ugandan lives. We are fueled by a deep motivation to see this lottery become a source of joy, opportunity, and national development.”
