First lady Janet Kataaha Museveni’s Ministry of Education and Sports has set the date for the start of a mass registration exercise that will see all secondary school students assigned National Identification Numbers (NINs).
Education Ministry Permanent Secretary Ketty Lamaro has since written to all the Headteachers of Government and Private Secondary Schools informing them about the countrywide registration of all learners will be conducted.
According to PS Lamaro, the exercise is meant to give students NINs which will be used in capturing data from progressive assessment. The PS also noted that the education ministry hopes to have registered all Senior One and Senior Two students in over 5,000 schools by the end of December 2022.
“The Ministry of Education and Sports, in conjunction with NIRA, is planning to conduct a countrywide registration of all learners in schools. The registration will ensure that the learners get National Identification Numbers in order to create unique identification, enable continuous follow up and progress assessment of each learner through the education levels,” Lamaro recently wrote to all school heads.
“This exercise will begin on 1st July 2022 with registration of all Senior One (S1) and Senior Two (S2) learners in all Government and Private Secondary schools. The target is to cover all local governments and register all S1 and S2 learners in approximately 5,550 secondary schools by December, 2022. ”
She also directed school headteachers to avail lists of names of all their learners in S1 and S2 classes of 2022 to the Ministry of Education and Sports by June 20, 2022 for effective planning.
“You may send Excel soft copies to the following address: lillian.nabayego@ education.go.ug (Government Schools), [email protected] (Private Schools), as per the attached template,” PS Lamaro further guided. “Take note that the availed list will be verified and used by NIRA for registration of students.”
This mass registration comes weeks after Janet Museveni ordered all schools to Collect All Parents National ID Numbers (NINs) and phone numbers. (Read Story Here).
