Zedriga and Nambeshe
The National Unity Platform (NUP) has announced a change in its acting leadership, with John Baptist Nambeshe assuming the role of acting president following the completion of Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru’s four-month tenure.
The announcement was made by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, who commended Dr. Zedriga for her stewardship of the party during the period she served as acting president.
“For four months, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, Deputy President Northern Region, has been acting President of our Party. During this period, she has steered the party well and kept the revolution alive. We’re all very grateful for her dedication and service,” Kyagulanyi said.
He added that Dr. Zedriga’s tenure had come to an end and confirmed that John Baptist Nambeshe, the party’s Deputy President for the Eastern Region, would now assume the responsibility.
“As her tenure comes to an end, I am pleased to announce that Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe, Deputy President Eastern Region, will be taking over as acting President of the National Unity Platform. I wish him well and request all leaders and comrades to accord him the necessary support,” Kyagulanyi stated.
Nambeshe, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Manjiya County in Bududa District, is one of NUP’s senior leaders and has been a prominent figure within the opposition party.
His appointment continues the party’s practice of rotating the acting presidency among its regional deputy presidents while Kyagulanyi is out of the country after he fled following the disputed 2026 elections.
Bobi Wine’s other deputy Muwanga Kivumbi was rearrested after his release on bail, as reported Here.
The transition marks the end of Dr. Zedriga’s four-month stint at the helm of the party, during which she oversaw NUP’s activities and represented the party in various engagements.
Kyagulanyi’s statement called on all party leaders and supporters to rally behind Nambeshe as he assumes the acting leadership role, emphasizing unity and continuity within Uganda’s leading opposition party.
