Nakalema Speaks on Reports of Alleged ‘Museveni Relatives’ Who Conned Foreign Investors in Gold Deal

Col Edith Nakalema, a Senior Presidential Advisor on Anti-Corruption efforts and the Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit, has spoken out on reports of Ugandans who claimed to be President Yoweri Museveni’s close relatives before conning unsuspecting foreign investors.

The allegations are contained in a petition by the investors from Kazakhstan in which they detail what they went through at the hands of a gold company, its purportedly well-connected bosses and a city lawyer.

The Kazakhstan nationals have asked the Museveni government to investigate the matter and compel the named persons to cough the money they gave them in the gold deal transaction.

They also want the men who claimed to close relatives of President Museveni to be exposed and punished in accordance with the laws of Uganda, and the president’s name cleared.

When she learnt of the allegations, Col Edith Nakalema, whose unit at State House is supposed to protect investors (both foreign and local), responded by referring the aggrieved Kazakhstan investors to make a formal complaint.

Nakalema asked activist and university professor Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, who brought the matter to light, to “advise the complainant to formally report his case to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit for investigation.”

“Otherwise, all investors are requested to do authentic due diligence through State House Investors Protection Unit, online Electric Investors Protection Portal (EIPP).”
