President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba says Vladmir Putin of Russia’s decision to attack Ukraine was “absolutely right.”
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a large scale invasion of Ukraine, her southwestern neighbor.
The invasion attracted condemnation from the US and the Europe, and prompted economic sanctions.
According to Lt Gen Kainerugaba, also the commander of UPDF land forces, Putin was right.
“The majority of mankind (that are non-white) support Russia’s stand in Ukraine. Putin is absolutely right! When the USSR parked nuclear armed missiles in Cuba in 1962 the West was ready to blow up the world over it. Now when NATO does the same they expect Russia to do differently?” wrote Uganda’s tweeting general.
But the first son was optimistic Ukraine and Russia would choose a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
“Also, as far as Russia’s ‘Special Operation’ in Ukraine is involved, I have learnt that you can never put anything beyond brothers! They will always surprise you. I remember between 1990-94 we expected a war between African and European in South Africa but it never happened!” he noted.
Officials from both Russia and Ukraine are expected to meet at the Belarus border to discuss the way forward.
