Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) 2021 presidential candidate Gregg Mugisha Muntu has told bush war comrade Saverino Kahinda Otafiire and others who think the army and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) should not hand over power that they are powerless.
Speaking to ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders from Greater Bushenyi as Uganda’s long-serving president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni campaigned in in the area on December 08, Otafiire said it was impossible to hand over power to Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, one of the presidential candidates.
“I like Kyagulanyi’s songs, but Kyagulanyi can’t lead me. I did not fight in Luweero for Kyagulanyi to lead me. We went to Luweero and fought, then now you tell me to be ruled by Kyagulanyi!” Otafiire said in his address to NRM leaders gathered at St Kaggwa Primary School. “No! Can he take us anywhere?”
Otafiire’s statements came months after Brig Deus Sande swore the army would not allow a power handover.
“As long as we are still existing, we are not there to give out power; we are not ready to give out power to ideologically bankrupt people,” Sande said at an event of ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizers in Masaka towards the end of October 2020.
“We are not planning a handover. Actually, we are consolidating.”
Now, Muntu, a former army commander, has told off army officers who making such statement that they are powerless.
“I hear some Generals saying that they cannot give power to another leader. That is propaganda! They don’t have the power, the power is with you the people. Make a decision today to overwhelmingly vote Gen. Museveni out of power on January 14, 2021,” Muntu said in Bukedea on December 10.
Muntu also emphasized qualitative leadership for the post-Museveni Uganda.
