Ugandan first son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba says government will repeal the anti-gay bill, passed in 2023.
The move is a u-turn from commentary by the first son in 2023 at the peak of the debate on the anti-gay bill. Then, Gen Muhoozi said the foreign firms seeking to leave Uganda over the piece of legislation were free to do so.
He even offered to help them pack out of Uganda, “God’s country,” and even said the country would be better off without the foreign investors.
“I hear some foreign companies (I don’t know which ones) want to leave the country because we passed the Anti-homose*ual bill,” Gen Muhoozi tweeted at 2:50 PM on March 22, 2023.
“We are willing to help them pack their bags and leave our blessed country forever! Uganda is God’s country! We will actually thrive without them.”
Now, Gen Muhoozi says the piece of legislation will be repealed next year. His decision was informed by Japanese people asking about the persecution of homos in Uganda.
He says the world had used the anti-gay law – which he thinks is a small law – to misunderstand Uganda.
“I was in Japan recently and people asked me why we are persecuting homose*uals? I was totally shocked and very hurt. Japanese are warriors like us. I respect them very much. I asked them how we are oppressing them? Then they told me about the AHA,” he wrote.
“Compatriots let’s get rid of that small law. Our friends around the world are misunderstanding us.”
He described homos as “sick people” and ones who needed prayers. Not even lashes would make them change, he thought.
“In 2026, we shall remove this Anti-Homose*uality Act. They are sick people, but since the Creator made them…what do we do? Even kiboko might not work. We shall pray for them.”
Muhoozi has continuously confessed Jesus Christ. He is from a family of religious people, his sister being a pastor. (See Details Here and There).
