Muhoozi Gives Final Warning to US Ambassador William Popp: Apologize to My Father or Leave Uganda

Ugandan first son and Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has set a condition for US Ambassador to Uganda William Popp if he wants to stay on his job as Washington’s envoy to Kampala: apologize to Museveni or leave.

Gen Muhoozi accuses Ambassador Popp of disrespecting President Yoweri Museveni, his father and Uganda’s president for nearly four decades.

Gen Muhoozi also alleges that Ambassador Popp’s actions undermine the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. In both accusations, Gen Muhoozi has not offered details on what constitutes disrespect or undermining the constitution.

The first son and army chief also dismissed claims that he has some personal vendetta against Ambassador Popp, adding that the matter for which he was angry with the envoy touched on the nation and warding off efforts to be dominated by foreigners.

“It is not only General MK [Muhoozi Kainerugaba]. It is President Museveni, the government and the people of Uganda too,” he clarified.

“This is not a personal issue between me and the current US Ambassador, this is a national issue and you’ll see that NO foreign country will ever dominate Uganda again!”

He then told Ambassador Popp to apologize to his father Museveni – in person – or wait and leave Uganda on Monday, October 07, 2024.

Muhoozi also shed more light on the allegations against Ambassador Popp – alluding to ‘undiplomatic behaviour’ and ‘working against the NRM government.’

“If this current US Ambassador does not apologize to Mzee personally by Monday morning (9.00am) for his undiplomatic behaviour in our country we will demand he leaves Uganda,” he announced.

“We have no problem with the USA, as I have said many times it is a country we love and admire. But lately we have a lot of evidence that they have been working against the NRM government.”
