Muhoozi Changes Besigye Hanging Date

First son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has changed the hanging date for Dr Kizza Besigye, long serving president Yoweri Museveni’s fiercest critic. As Muhoozi changes Besigye hanging date, Ugandans continue to debate the shocking revelation made on microblogging site X, formerly Twitter.

While Muhoozi’s revelation that Dr Besigye will be hanged is not rooted in any court ruling so far, the veteran opposition leader and his aide Obeid Lutale face charges of treachery, unlawful possession of firearms and undermining national security.

The duo is appearing before a military court – one that does not really operate like a court but rather a tribunal where suspects and their attorneys can be jailed for their arguments.

The main influence on the General Court Martial, which is mainly supposed to decide on disciplinary matters for soldiers, are President Museveni (the Commander in Chief of Armed Forces) and his son Gen Muhoozi, the CDF.

So, some are justified to think that Gen Muhoozi could be giving a hint on how the army court may rule on the Besigye case.

A day after he revealed that Besigye would be hanged in the northern Uganda city of Gulu, Gen Muhoozi has now said that the MPs’ interest in the matter has prompted bringing the hanging nearer.

While the first son had said Besigye would be hanged on Heroes Day, which is marked on June 09, the veteran politician, retired colonel and former Museveni physician will be hanged a month earlier.

“Yesterday, I said we would HANG Besigye on Heroes Day (June 9th),” he wrote. “But thanks to some IDIOTS in parliament we have brought the day closer! We will hang him on May 9th!”

By idiots in parliament, Muhoozi was referring to members of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee who summoned him to personally appear and explain his reckless posts on X. (See Details Here).

Besigye’s wife Winnie Byanyima has also revealed what she will do if Muhoozi and his father Museveni decide to hang her husband. (See Details Here).
