The management of Makerere University Business School (MUBS)-Jinja Campus has launched an online campaign aimed at boosting public access to coronavirus related information.
The drive which was launched on video meeting APP – ZOOM on Thursday 22 was organised by campus Director Veronica Mukyaala. Hundreds of those who attended were equipped with an overview of COVID19, Home based care and the commonly asked questions about COVID19 vaccination.
In her presentation, Dr. Tamale highlighted the risk that pandemic still poses to the public and asked Ugandans to continue staying vigilant until the danger subsides. She also lectured on transmission, symptoms and management of the disease.
According to Ms. Tamale, infections among the elderly and those with underlying health complications like Diabetes, HIV/Aids, High blood pressure, among others are usually more severe as compared to those in younger with viable health. She said that between 97 and 99 of hospital admissions recover, which sends a ray of hope.
On homebased care for COVID19, Dr. Gulooba explained that it is a strategy adopted by the government in response to the overwhelming second wave of the pandemic which increased pressure on the health system.
He lectured on the circumstances under which home based care for COVID19 patients can be prescribed. He among others said that asymptomatic patients without underlying health issues and those those with mild symptoms can continue with their recovery from home. He however emphasised that homes with a specific room for isolation with water and a separate toilet can admit patients for home care.
The session also made an appeal to the public to go for vaccination and disregard the negative publicity that the jabs are not safe.
Dr. Tamale, in response to concerns over the safety of those vaccinated, tabled statistics from Ntebbe Grade B hospital, revealing that none of the admissions vaccinated died while all the eleven deaths reported had not been vaccinated.
Ms Mukyaala assured that as MUBS- Jinja, they would continue organising these digital engagements on a weekly basis until the current health crisis subsides.
