Full statement: Minister Kutesa responds to EU Parliament in 10-page letter

Uganda’s foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa has responded to allegations raised by the European Union (EU) Parliament on human rights violation, election credibility and civil society space.

On February 11, members of the EU Parliament (MEPs) overwhelmingly voted to pass a series of resolutions against Uganda, and urged Kampala to address the issues raised or risk sanctions, including aid cuts.

Four days later, foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa wrote to EU Parliament president David Sassoli denying the allegations, assuring MEPs of Uganda’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and international laws, but made it clear Uganda would not do anything that would compromise her sovereignty.
