Millions Collected in Fundraising Drive for Construction of Mbarara Archdiocese Arcade

Over Shs200m has been collected to support the construction of a mega arcade for Mbarara Archdiocese estimated to cost Shs8.53bn.

The fundraiser, organized by Mbarara Archdiocese Development Foundation (AMDEF), took place at Rubindi Catholic Parish in Mbarara District. The initiative is aimed at generating revenue for the archdiocese.

The ceremony was graced by Eng John Twinomujuni Muhimbuura, the Commissioner for Urban Water in the Ministry of Water and Environment, who represented Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi as the guest of honor. Eng Twinomujuni commended the archdiocese’s efforts in fostering development.

Twinomujuni contributed Shs10m towards the project, a sum also matched by the chief guest and Hon Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy speaker of Parliament who is also the chairperson board of trustees AMDEF.

Eng Twinomujunu’s wife Loydah Muhimbuura, a Mbarara District Woman Councillor, also contributed Shs10m.

Mbarara District Woman MP Margaret Ayebare Rwebyambu contributed Shs7m  to support the initiative and pledged to contribute Shs5m annually towards the same project.

The Mbarara District Woman MP called for unity among Christians, urging them to set aside differences for the greater good. “There is no tribalism, political party or religion when it comes to development,” Rwebyambu emphasized.

Patrick Musinguzi, a politician from Kashari, who was among the invited guests, commended Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha for being a great leader, and one who socializes with everyone regardless of various religions they subscribe to.

“If the Archbishop was a selective leader among religions or political wing, the majority would not have come up to support his initiative,” said Musinguzi.

Speaking during the mass at Rubindi Catholic Parish in Mbarara district, the Archbishop emphasized the importance of communal harmony, drawing parallels between the way Christians gather before God and how they should live together in their daily lives.
