The race for the 2026 Buliisa county MP is beginning to get heated after Erasmus Wobusobozi Majara Atwooki, also known as Kyahukanu M’ukoch, declared his intention to unseat the incumbent Allan Atugonza.

Wobusobozi Majara Atwooki, who previously worked with Opportunity Bank Limited, says he is in the race to supplement efforts to drive the people of Buliisa out of poverty and help its young people tap into the opportunities that the oil and gas sector has brought to the district and the region.

He is well versed with the oil and gas sector, given his work in promoting local content. Wobusobozi Majara Atwooki currently works as a Social Responsibility and National Content Assistant with Karmod Beta Prefabricated Company Limited Uganda in Kasinyi in Buliisa.

“I see myself as the beacon of hope and one who can steer Buliisa to greater heights given the ongoing oil works in Buliisa which to me seem as the bedrock of Uganda’s economy at the moment,” Wobusobozi Majara Atwooki told The Pearl Times.

Wobusobozi Majara Atwooki blames the incumbent Allan Atugonza for not doing enough to help the youth tap into the oil and gas sector as well as helping households jump out of poverty.

He added that he was determined to run in the race and win, making it clear that he would not be swayed to drop out of the race.

Like the incumbent Allan Atugonza, Wobusobozi Majara Atwooki has further told The Pearl Times that he intends to run as an independent candidate because “I want to be true to myself and the electorate once I am given this mantle.”

Incumbent Buliisa MP Allan Atugonza

In the 2021 parliamentary election, Atugonza garnered 15,062 votes to beat Steven Biraahwa Mukitale Adyeeri of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) who polled 12,340.

Turning 33 at the end of May 2024, Wobusobozi Majara Atwooki was born on May 31, 1991 in a small remote village called Kibambura in Ngwedo Sub County, which is home to the magnificent Central Processing Facility for the Ugandan Oil and gas in Buliisa District. He holds a bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.
