Sembabule District Woman MP flag bearer Mary Begumisa
Mary Begumisa will hold the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag in the election to choose the Sembabule Women Parliamentary Representative for the 2021-26 term of office.
On September 30, NRM voters in Sembabule went to the polls to choose three flag bearers.
Party members voted for candidates for Mawogola North, Mawogola West and Sembabule Women Representative parliamentary elections.
In the latter poll, Begumisa comfortably won the NRM flag, beating off competition from two contenders: Jovans Twongyeire and Phoebe Arinaitwe.
According to results announced by Sembabule NRM returning officer George William Katokoozi, Begumisa garnered 73,940 votes (72.9 per cent), ahead of Twongyeirwe who polled 16,488 votes (16.2 per cent) and Arinaitwe who managed 11,011 votes (10.9 per cent).
In 2021, Begumisa will face off with candidates from opposition political parties in a bid to ensure that NRM retains the seat.
Anifa Bangirana Kawooya is the current Sembabule Woman MP.
But Kawooya opted to contest in Mawogola West.
