Maj Gen Deus Sande Dead: UPDF Reveals Circumstances Leading to Armored Division Commander’s Death

The UPDF has confirmed reports of the death of Maj Gen Deus Sande, hitherto the UPDF Armored Division Commander based in Masaka.

Acting UPDF and defence spokesperson Col Chris Magezi said that Maj Gen Deus Sande died early this morning. He was pronounced dead in Mpigi.

“Tragedy has struck the UPDF family again, and with deep sorrow, we confirm the sudden passing of the UPDF Armored Division Commander (Masaka) Major General Deus Sande early this morning in Mpigi at around 0345 hours,” confirmed Col Magezi.

The acting army spokesperson further noted that Maj Gen Deus Sande had first developed breathing complications.

Health workers were unable to resuscitate him.

He was travelling to Kampala for the funeral service of former UPDF deputy land forces commander Maj Gen Francis Takirwa.

“He was on his way to Kampala to attend the funeral service of comrade Major General Francis Takirwa (RIP) at All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero,” revealed Magezi.

“Major General Takirwa died on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Major General Deus Sande developed breathing complications along the way and efforts to resuscitate him at a hospital facility in Mpigi failed.”

Magezi added that “the exact cause of death will be ascertained later,” further extending the UPDF’s   “condolences to his family, relatives, and friends.”
