Kampala deputy lord mayor Doreen Nyanjira has shed more light on the health condition of her boss Erias Lukwago.
When news of his journey broke, speculation on his health condition started.
Nyanjura has noted that Lukwago is suffering from acute anaphylaxis. But the situation was not as alarming as reported, added the deputy mayor.
“The Lord Mayor was diagnosed with acute anaphylaxis which became persistent on treatment,” she said.
“While he is not in a critical condition, doctors found it [vital] to conduct further examinations and management.”
Lukwago has since “commenced the necessary medical procedures,” Nyanjura went on.
“The Office of the Lord Mayor appreciates the overwhelming concerns and sympathies. We hope for his quick recovery and return to Kampala.”
Several health information experts describe anaphylaxis as a serious allergic reaction.
It occurs rapidly and delays in seeking treatment could lead to death.
Anaphylaxis happens when the immune system overreacts to a trigger.
Nuts, milk, fish, eggs, some fruits and drugs like some antibiotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin are some of the common triggers.
Other common ones are insect stings, mainly those or wasps and bees; general anaesthetics; contrast agents like dyes used in some medical tests to help certain areas of the human body show up better on scans.
Also listed among the triggers is latex, a type of rubber found in some rubber gloves and condoms.
