Speaker Anita Among has suspended about a dozen MPs after chaotic scenes in which Mityana Municipality legislator Francis Zaake was punched.
Speaker Anita Among suspended the MPs for three consecutive sittings. She directed the Sergeant at Arms to make sure that the legislators suspended vacate the chambers.
“I am proceeding to name the MPs and suspend these members for three consecutive sittings from this House. The Members are suspended with immediate effect from the House,” she announced.
“I am also evoking Rule 88(2) to order the above MPs to withdraw immediately from the House and according order the Seargent at Arms that they vacate the Chambers and therefore suspend the House for 15minutes.”
The suspended MPs are Kilak North representative Anthony Akol, Wakayima Musoke of Nansana Municipality, Aloysius Mukasa of Rubaga South, Charles Tebandeke of Bbale County, Francis Zaake of Mityana Municipality, and Isiah Ssasaga of Budadiri East.
Others are Asinansi Nyakato of Hoima City, Derrick Nyeko of Makindye East, Frank Kabuye of Kassanda South, Evans Kanyike of Bukoto East, Kampala City Woman MP Shamim Malende, and Buvuma District Woman MP Susan Mugabi.
Meanwhile, Speaker Anita Among has issued an apology over the beating of MP Zaake by his colleague Anthony Akol who represents Kilak North.
“I want to register my apology to what happened to our colleague sincerely, that wasn’t called for. What happened to Zaake wasn’t called for,” she said.
