The Education Service Commission (ESC), under the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), has shortlisted over 1,200 teachers and non-teaching staff for jobs under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGIFT) for the Elgon seed schools.
The over 1,200 teachers and non-teaching staff, according to a count done by The Pearl Times, were picked from thousands who did aptitude tests for the same jobs a few weeks ago.
These had applied for the same jobs towards the end of last year and the process of recruitment is still ongoing for Elgon and other regions.
The schools for which the Education Service Commission is hiring teachers and non-teaching staff in Elgon region (Bugisu and Sebei) include: Kaptanya Seed SS Kapchorwa, Kaptum Seed SS Kween, and Khabutoola Seed SS Manafwa.
Others are Lwasso Seed SS Mbale, Moyok Seed SS Kween, Senedet Seed SS Bukwo, St Mary’s Bugitimwa Seed SS Sironko, Nakatsi Seed SS Bududa, Namboko Seed SS Namisindwa, and Sisiyi Seed SS Bulambuli.
Each of these schools will have a headteacher, a deputy headteacher, teachers for both graduate and diploma levels (education officer and assistant education officer), a bursar, an enrolled nurse, a stenographer secretary, a laboratory assistant and a library attendant, according to information obtained by The Pearl Times.
Each school gets about 30 staff, both teaching and non teaching staff. All of these are being recruited by the Education Service Commission.
According to a count done by The Pearl Times, for Kaptanya Seed SS in Kapchorwa District, up to 120 teachers and non-teaching staff have been shortlisted; and about 125 for Kaptum Seed SS in Kween District. Other schools have around the same number.
Khabutoola Seed SS in Manafwa District has about 118 shortlisted teachers and non-teaching staff. Lwasso Seed School in Mbale has 120 shortlisted teachers and non-teaching staff.
For Moyok Seed SS in Kween District, about 140 teachers and non-teaching staff have been shortlisted for oral interviews.
For Senedet Seed School in Bukwo District, up to 113 candidates were shortlisted.
For St Mary’s Bugitimwa Seed SS in Sironko District, up to 115 teachers and non-teaching staff were shortlisted.
For Nakatsi Seed SS in Bududa District, up to 126 were shortlisted.
For Namboko Seed SS in Namisindwa, about 137 were shortlisted while for Sisiyi Seed SS Bulambuli, about 124 were shortlisted.
The oral interviews for the candidates shortlisted for jobs under these UGIFT seed schools will be conducted at Kololo Secondary School, Sesemat Hostel.
“The Secretary Education Service Commission, informs candidates who did aptitude tests under Cluster 4 (Elgon Region), that the shortlists for successful candidates for oral interviews, are hereby released,” announced ESC secretary Dr Asuman Lukwago.
“Successful candidates will be subjected to oral interviews from Tuesday 10th to 16th June 2025. The oral interviews will be conducted in KAMPALA at Sesemat Hostel, Kololo Senior Secondary School, starting at 8:00 am each Day.”
Dr Lukwago urged candidates to go with the requisite documents and to appear in person.
“Shortlisted candidates should come along with originals of their Academic! Professional Certificates and Transcripts, plus National Identity Cards,” he further noted.
“Candidates should endeavor to appear as scheduled; requests for rescheduling will not be accepted. Candidates whose names do not appear on the list should consider themselves unsuccessful.”

Dr Lukwago also reminded candidates that services provided by Education Services Commission are free of charge.
