LIST: Museveni Appoints New Judges, Deputy Chief Justice

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Justice Flavian Zeija as the new Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda as well as several other judges to other courts, according to a statement by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Other judges appointed include a Justice of the Supreme Court, eight to the Constitutional Court or Court of Appeal and 21 to the High Court.

“The President in exercise of his powers under Article 142 (1), and (2) of the Constitution has appointed the deputy Chief Justice, one Justice of the Supreme Court and eight justices of the Court of Appeal. In addition, H.E has also appointed 21 judges of the High Court in acting capacity,” read the statement from the Judicial Service Commission.

Re-appointed after disciplinary proceedings

The appointments came about a week after the Supreme Court ruled to stop the trial of civilians, including Museveni’s opponent Dr Kizza Besigye, in military courts. Museveni has opposed the Supreme Court judgement, and so has his son, military chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
