Dr Winnie Byanyima, the wife to opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye and UNAIDS executive director, says there is no doubt that the leaked audios pinning her husband were fabricated by arrested UPDF intelligence bosses.
Dr Besigye and his aide Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya were arrested from the Kenyan capital Nairobi in November of 2024 when they had travelled to attend the book launch hosted by former minister Martha Karua.
Leaked audios shared by regime apologists had a man they claim was Dr Besigye negotiating for firearms with a white man.
It is said that even in Nairobi, the white ally is the one who betrayed Dr Besigye.
Besigye and Lutale have been behind bars since last year.
But also joining them in detention elsewhere are about a dozen UPDF officers led by former intelligence chief Maj Gen James Birungi who is said to have engaged in falsification of intelligence reports and corruption.
Now, Winnie Byanyima says her husband is being hold on account of false intelligence reports.
“With this new development of fabricated intelligence by CMI, could it be that the intelligence that caused the arrest of Dr. Besigye and Mr. Obed Lutaale be a fabrication the government is now stuck with?” wondered one observer of the developments on microblogging site X, formerly Twitter.
To which Winnie Byanyima replied, “It is the case.”
