Kitgum Man Kills Friend Over Roasted Rat

A 44-year-old man in Kitgum District has died following a violent altercation reportedly triggered by a dispute over a roasted rat.

According to an incident report filed with the Uganda Police Force under CRB 281/2026, the incident occurred in the early hours of 8th May 2026 in Tultul Central Village, Katwotwo Parish, Orom East Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Omony Charles, a 44-year-old peasant and resident of the area.

Police reports indicate that Omony and another man, identified as Okot David, were roasting and sharing rats when a disagreement arose. The suspect allegedly accused Omony of eating his rat, which sparked a physical fight.

During the confrontation, Omony reportedly lost consciousness after being assaulted. Residents rushed him to Orom Health Centre III for treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The matter was later reported to Orom Police Station by Lotyang James, a 33-year-old resident of Tultul Central Village.

Police officers, together with scene-of-crime personnel, visited the scene and collected evidence as investigations got underway. The body of the deceased was later transferred to Namukora Health Centre mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Authorities have confirmed that one suspect has been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations.

The incident has left residents in shock, with many questioning how a seemingly minor disagreement escalated into a fatal confrontation.
