Counsel Elias Nalukoola Luyimbaazi of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has been declared the winner of the Kawempe North by-election.
The returning officer of Kampala Electoral District, Henry Makabai, declared the winner of the much heated up by-election that attracted nine candidates.
Nalukoola garnered 17,764 votes, followed by the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Faridah Nambi, who got 8,593 votes.
Hanifah Karadi Mulerwa, an independent candidate, got 381 votes, while Stanley Engena , another independent candidate, got 22 votes.
Democratic Party’s Henry Kasacca Mubiru polled 100 votes, Muhammad Luswa Luwemba, 240 votes, and Sadat Mukiibi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), who secured 239 votes.
Ismail Musiitwa of the People’s Progressive Party received 39 votes, Muhamood Mutazindwa, an independent candidate, got 186 votes, and Moses Nsereko, also an independent candidate, received 32.

Nalukoola takes up the seat that fell vacant following the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya.
Kawempe North By-election has attracted thousands of opinions and criticism following the long day violence that saw several Journalists battered.

Shortly after his declaration, Nalukoola dedicated the win to the late Ssegirinya and vowed to fight for the rights of the people of Kawempe North.
“This victory is not just mine—it belongs to the people of Kawempe North and the late Hon. Ssegirinya, who sacrificed so much for this community. I will continue his legacy and stand up for the people against oppression and injustice,” he said.
