Journalists under the Kashari South Journalists Emyooga SACCO have elected Edson Kinene of Uganda Radio Network (URN) as their new chairperson.
Kinene takes over from Lilian Korutaro, who has led the journalists’ SACCO for the past four years.

In her farewell remarks, Korutaro urged members to be more responsible when borrowing money, warning against diverting SACCO loans to activities for which they were not intended.
“Some of you borrow money and use it wrongly, or you divert it to doing things that are not intended for the loans, invest that money you will not regret.”
She encouraged members to put borrowed funds into productive ventures capable of generating income and improving their livelihoods.

Taking over the leadership, Kinene said the SACCO was established to improve the economic wellbeing of journalists and called on members to make proper use of the opportunities it provides.
“The purpose of Saccos especially this one is to prosper us, develop us, and trust me if utilized well, trust me we shall change.”
Kinene also urged journalists to strengthen the SACCO by consistently saving while taking loans for productive investments.
He said increased member participation would help the SACCO grow its financial base and enable it to attract additional seed capital from the Microfinance Support Centre.
The new chairperson called on members to view the SACCO not simply as a source of loans, but as a collective platform for building financial stability and supporting the development of journalists in Kashari South.
